The U.S. air accident investigator said on Thursday that proposed safety upgrades in the Boeing Co 737 MAX jet were “positive progress”. The changes could pave the way for the U.S. FAA to lift a ban on the jet, potentially before year-end. Boeing moves sideways for months now as investors only focus on the 737 MAX issues. But if we dig deeper, we see that the majority of Boeing’s earnings are not coming from commercial jets. Through much of the 2000s, Boeing’s defence business rather than its passenger jets drove the bulk of earnings. The latest budget from the U.S. Department of Defence suggests the coming years could be similarly lucrative.
